1. Natural
An ingredient may be considered natural if it originates in nature or is ultimately sourced from
nature, is minimally processed as described below, and is not chemically synthesized.
Ingredients that originate in nature include botanical, marine, BSE-free animal, non-pathogenic
microorganisms and mineral substances. Ingredients may not be obtained other than from: filtration,
distillation, extraction, centrifugation, adsorption, hydrolysis, hydrogenation, calcining (heat-processing)
or esterification of fats, oils, waxes, lecithin, lanolin, mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides and lipoproteins, or
enzymatic and fermentation methods. Extraction may be carried out with water, CO2, ethyl alcohol, and other
naturally-derived solvents. Water shall be considered natural. Ingredients may not contain non-natural solvents,
stabilizers, preservatives or processing aids.
2. Organic
No global governmental organic standards currently exist for cosmetic products. An existing organic
standard has been established by USDA under their National Organic Program.
3. Post Consumer Recycled
PCR stands for Post-Consumer Recycled Material (previously recycled).
4. Recyclable
Recyclable material is a category of material that is feasible to recycle. Since cosmetic packages are generally
not practical or economical to recycle, the use of recycled material is of greater benefit to the environment
than recyclable material.

1. Does ALMAY test their products on animals?
No. ALMAY relies on the judgment of pharmacological, toxicological and medical experts.
We use non-animal alternative test methods as well as the safety histories of formulations and ingredients to determine product safety.
2. Are any ALMAY pure blends™ products certified organic?
No. All ALMAY pure blends™ products contain over 95% natural ingredients. The generally accepted criteria for "certified organic" products actually are much less stringent than natural products. A "certified organic" product needs to contain only 70% organic ingredients. Such products potentially may contain as much as 30% of ingredients that are neither natural nor organic. In contrast, ALMAY pure blends™ products strictly incorporate the highest amount of natural ingredients, thereby providing the consumer with the maximum level of benefits from natural ingredients.
3. Where are ALMAY pure blends™ products made?
All current ALMAY pure blends™ products are made in our manufacturing plant in Oxford, North Carolina.

All the ingredients used in ALMAY pure blends™ products are selected carefully for safety, gentleness and efficacy. These products are manufactured, packaged and transported in a fresh, pure state. Under normal use conditions, the microorganisms normally present on the skin of the user sometimes can affect the purity of the product once it has been opened. In order to provide the consumer with the greatest degree of safety and purity throughout the shelf life of the product, ALMAY pure blends™ uses preservatives specially chosen for mildness and safety. This affords users of ALMAY pure blends™ products a greater extent of protection as compared to other natural products without preservatives. Our products are usually formulated to last a minimum of three (3) years.

11. Will paper compacts last?
In normal use, the paperboard compacts will perform as well as their plastic equivalent. Board is relatively soft material,
of course, and can obviously be damaged by impact from hard and sharp objects. However, we conduct exhaustive tests to ensure the durability of hinges and
surfaces.
Paperboard was chosen as the material for the compacts because its high recycled content is eco-friendly. Additionally, paperboard compacts are slightly lighter in weight vs comparable plastic compacts.
12. What % Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) is considered "good"?
For tubes, Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) content is a recent development and most tube suppliers do not currenly offer this option. Hence, there is little in the way of benchmarking. There are some applications for which 100% PCR is possible. For our application, we are using the "safer" format, using PCR sandwiched between two layers of virgin material. This format means there is no contamination risk, and our extensive testing did not show any malodor, discoloration or cracking of tubes.
13. Are ALMAY pure blends™ products recyclable?
If the lipgloss or makeup caps and tubes are separated, it may be possible to recycle the tubes.
14. What happened to ALMAY pure blends™ mineral makeup?
Because ALMAY is committed to offering consumers products using breakthrough technology and trends, we need to
periodically discontinue products in order to make room for new ones. If you can't find the product you're looking for, click here for the perfect
alternatives to suit your needs.
15. Are ALMAY pure blends™ products suitable for contact lens wearers?

1. Why aren't ALMAY pure blends™ products 100% natural?
There were 2 overarching goals during the development of ALMAY pure blends™ products: 1. Development of formulations containing as close to 100% natural ingredients as possible and 2. Creation of products delivering the maximum combination of safety, performance and benefit for the consumer. Toward these ends all ALMAY pure blends™ products contain 95.8% to 98.2% natural ingredients. In certain instances when there is no viable natural alternative available to provide the desired end benefits, carefully chosen synthetic ingredients were used instead at minimal levels.
2. Since it's not 100% natural, what makes up the remaining % of the formula?
ALMAY has always been based upon honesty and transparency to the consumer. Included in this approach is stringent control of the raw ingredients used in ALMAY products. ALMAY is completely confident in the selection of all ingredients selected for use in all ALMAY pure blends™ products. These include the small amount of synthetic ingredients that are needed to be used in order to provide necessary key end benefits. Full disclosure of even the most minimal ingredients is fully consistent with this long standing ALMAY tradition.
- makeup (97.4% natural): remaining 2.6% includes preservatives and emulsifiers
- powder, blush, eye shadow (98.2% natural): remaining 1.8% includes preservatives and colorants
